Family Hiking in Phoenix
There are so many wonderful family hiking areas around Phoenix! If you are planning a visit to Phoenix, try to take a few hours to get out for a hike to see the true beauty of this area. It's also cheap entertainment! Remember while hiking to bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen and stay on the path (watch for snakes!). Some of our favorite places to hike are the Estrella Mountain Regional Park in Goodyear and the White Tank Mountain Park in Waddell. Both are an easy drive from Phoenix and offer a variety of trails.
Beautiful mountains, desert and grassy areas come together in the Estrella Mountain Park. Great for biking, hiking, fishing (catch and release only) and picnicking.
Our favorite area of White Tank Mountain Park is the Waterfall Trail.
The waterfall trail is .9 miles each way. It is a well cared for trail (just a few months ago it was closed for improvements). It also passes through some areas with petroglyphs, which were very interesting for the kids. There are benches along the way. Though most of the trail is stroller friendly, there is an area at the end that has rock steps. There are picnic areas and restrooms at the trail beginning.
