Family Fun in the Denver Area: Butterfly Pavillion

The Butterfly Pavillion is a great place to take your little insect lover.  Besides butterflies, there are plenty of other things to see.    The facility is comprised of three sections;  butterflies, sea invertebrates and insects.  Each display contains factual information.  In the insect room you can hold a tarantula named Rosie for which you will earn a sticker denoting your accomplishment.  The butterfly area is actually a tropical rain forest with ponds, trees and an amazing array of butterflies.  If you are lucky enough to be present during a release time, a staff member will provide information on the butterflies as they release them into their new surroundings.   Be sure to take the time to look for turtles in the ponds.  The are touch pools to pet starfish.  Outside is a short nature trail.   There is a  snack stand on site, and picnic tables outside.

We find it usually only takes about 1 - 2 hours to enjoy all aspects of the facility, so consider that in relation to the price.  Also, if there is a school group there, it can be very difficult to get near any of the hands-on areas.
