A Day Trip From Denver: Georgetown Loop Railroad

Enjoy the beauty of the Rocky Mountains on the Georgetown Loop Railroad, a historical narrow gauge steam locomotive.  Though Georgetown and Silver Plume are only 2 miles apart, the tracks wind through the scenic canyon and cross Clear Creek four times, including passing over the Devil's Gate Bridge twice.  The ride is a round trip with a short stop at each station.   The kids loved being on the old train and watching out for wildlife along the tracks (especially the chipmunks which like to come up next to the windows while we were stopped).  That being said, the younger children were bored by about half way through the trip so you might want to bring something to keep them occupied.  Also, be sure to use the restrooms at the train stations as there are no restrooms on board the train.
