Opened in 1909, The Stanley Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places and is often referred to as one of America's most haunted hotels. It is a luxury hotel at an reasonable (though not budget) price. The hotel features large rooms, including suites and adjoining rooms which work well for families. The older children were very interested in the history and historical displays at the hotel. The Stanley Hotel offers a ghost tour during which they recant stories of the hotel's haunted history (additional fee). The tour was a lot of fun and informative (the younger children were a little frightened by the stories but enjoyed the hot chocolate and cookies served on the tour).
Two drawbacks is the fact that parking is quite a distance from most of the rooms, so it can be tedious for a family to unload the kids and the car. Also, there is no breakfast included with the room but there are many restaurants in the area including some fast food.
